The novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is bringing everything to a halt.

Colleges all across the nation, as well as Rose State, have determined it is safer to transfer their face-to-face campus courses online to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

That being said, Rose State College has decided to continue classes through alternative technology delivery methods for the rest of the spring semester.

Courses that were originally conducted online will continue as scheduled. Courses that are switching online began March 30 and will continue for the remainder of the semester.

Professors will work on uploading additional content onto Canvas to help students better understand their lessons, along with learning how to use Zoom, a group conference call website.

Ultimately, professors will make the decision whether they will or will not be holding video lectures via Zoom.

“I started making videos for my F2F classes using TechSmith Relay,” Sherri Mussatto, English professor and Writing Program administrator, provided in an email interview. “In these videos, I am able to switch back and forth between my face and the computer screen so I can feel like I'm talking with my students as well as showing them where assignments are located on the home page. I can highlight various aspects of assignments and point to where they should click next.”

Although Mussatto has never used Zoom, she plans on learning how to use it within the next week.

Rose State will have a computer lab in the Learning Resources Center for students who do not have computer access. They will take strict precautions in making sure the lab stays sanitized and that students will remain distant from one another.

Students are expected to check emails and Canvas frequently to keep up with ongoing classes.

Student Services will be available virtually. You may contact them via email or phone with questions regarding financial aid, academic advising, student engagement, graduation or admission and records.

Rose State asks that if any student is diagnosed with COVID-19 that they self-report to the vice president of student affairs through email at lnewbold@rose.edu.
